Next up is "Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven", not only Kid Cudi's most detested and humiliated album to date, but one of the most hated albums of all time.Īnd for good reason. Blatantly off key moments with his vocals like on "Mad Solar", "Burn Baby Burn" and "Lord Of The Sad And The Lonely" get into the history books of his ugliest recordings yet.Īnd yet despite the bloated tracklisting and the fact that next to every feature outplays him on his own project, "Indicud" is admirable for just being one of his more courageous attempts at evolving artistically, risking alienating his audience. That being said I also think Kid Cudi is the biggest drawback of the record. And I think that might be "Indicud's" greatest strength, Scott did an incredible job at establishing an addictive and mind-altering experience. Many of the instrumentals on this project often feel warm and heavy. The atmosphere, the aggression, the fiery passion, all these attributes are more present, replacing more gentle, endearing vocals as well as grounded consistency in theme. The second weakest Kid Cudi album in my opinion, as well as the first solo produced record of his.Īnd production on this side of his catalog feels radically different from anything fans would find him on before like either "Man On The Moon" album that he became so popular for. The biggest highlight though, probably WHERE DID YOU SLEEP LAST NIGHT.
There are blunders, and if you're not the biggest Cudi fan I don't see you enjoying many of his bad habits on this record. But unfortunately not everything on the tracklist follows suit. Those songs kind of display what the album could have been, with more time, focus and passion. Like the Nirvana cover of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night?", or the engrossingly produced and instantaneously catchy "The Dream Team Time Machine". Not everyone was convinced Scott was comfortable performing such a great leap into rock, especially with what many found to be cheap production and nearly unlistenable vocals.Īnd while those are fair crtitiques, I think there are quite a few moments that are worthy of being in the Cudi canon. This would mark his first, but certainly not final venture into experimental rock music.Īnd at the time I can't really say that "WZRD", as an artistic statement, ingrained itself in the minds of the general listeners. In 2012, before his gradual fall from grace, Scott found it ideal that his next step forward artistically would be a collaboration with long-time friend and producer Dot Da Genius. In last place we have what is easily the weakest record in Cudi's catalog.
